The International Forum for Peace & Diplomacy (IFPD) has formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Afro-Caribbean Chamber of Culture & Tourism, marking a significant milestone in the advancement of cultural diplomacy, heritage promotion, and people-to-people engagement between Africa and its global diaspora.

Describing the agreement as both timely and strategic, Ambassador Adeniran, Director-General of IFPD, emphasized that the partnership represents a deliberate step toward reclaiming, projecting, and institutionalizing African identity on the global stage. According to him, culture remains one of Africa’s most powerful yet underutilized diplomatic assets—capable of shaping narratives, strengthening unity, and fostering mutual understanding across borders.

“This partnership is a strong statement of cultural diplomacy,” Ambassador Adeniran noted. “It recognizes the African diaspora not only as custodians of shared history, but as strategic partners in projecting Africa’s cultural power, economic potential, and peace-building capacity.”

Culture, Tourism, and Economic Transformation

The MOU is designed to harness the vast opportunities within Africa’s tourism and cultural economy, estimated to generate over US$27 billion annually across the continent. Through joint programs, cultural exchanges, tourism promotion initiatives, and diaspora engagement platforms, the partnership aims to expand Africa-Caribbean tourism flows while strengthening cultural industries as engines of inclusive growth.

Both institutions acknowledged that beyond economic returns, cultural tourism plays a vital role in restoring historical connections, promoting intercultural dialogue, and advancing sustainable development—particularly for youth, creatives, and local communities.

Tourism as a Tool for Peace

Central to the agreement is a shared commitment to deploy tourism and cultural heritage as instruments for peacebuilding. By promoting intercultural understanding, preserving shared heritage, and encouraging positive cross-regional engagement, the collaboration seeks to address social fragmentation and reinforce peaceful coexistence across Africa and the diaspora.

The MOU outlines areas of cooperation including:
• Cultural and heritage exchange programs
• Joint tourism promotion and investment advocacy
• Diaspora-led cultural diplomacy initiatives
• Peace education through culture and creative industries
• Policy dialogue on sustainable and inclusive tourism

A Shared Vision for Africa and the Diaspora

The Afro-Caribbean Chamber of Culture & Tourism welcomed the partnership as a forward-looking alliance that aligns economic opportunity with historical responsibility and global cultural influence. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that Africa’s cultural wealth is not only preserved, but strategically leveraged for unity, prosperity, and peace.

With this MOU, IFPD continues to position itself at the forefront of innovative diplomacy—one that recognizes culture not merely as heritage, but as power, policy, and a pathway toward a more peaceful and interconnected African continent.
